A short story collection
Stella Jansen
The scene is set in a general store, la tienda, on a Mediterranean island where tourists and locals alike stop by to quell their thirst, to pick up some groceries or a gift, bird feed, tools or paint perhaps and, to sit down and have a chat while sharing some juicy bits of gossip with friends and acquaintances. The owner is old man José Clabet who lets his children Pilar and Jaime run the place; his ancient mother sits and watches what goes on in and around the store all day on a chair near the entrance. The goings on in the tienda run like a red thread throughout the book, revealing the essence of what connects these folks in the stories that unfold. ~
