Synopsis of FACING THE MUSIC - A novel by Stella Jansen

Synopsis:

Anique is a talented young singer from Holland, renowned for her performances across the country. When she receives an unexpected offer to sing in a nightclub on the island of Cyprus, she eagerly accepts, drawn by the promise of adventure and the allure of a new chapter in her life. Little does she know, her decision will plunge her into a world of danger, intrigue, and deception.

It's 1976, two years after the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus, and the political climate is still tense. But Anique is blissfully unaware of the turmoil that surrounds her. Soon after arriving, she meets Michaelis Angelidis, a strikingly handsome Greek-Cypriot, and falls deeply in love. It seems like the perfect escape from her ordinary life.

However, Anique’s dream quickly turns into a nightmare. She unwittingly becomes entangled with the criminal underworld that controls Limassol and Nicosia—mafia figures who own most of the nightclubs and hotels on the island. As she becomes acquainted with the dangerous men who run the show, she finds herself at the mercy of their ruthless operations. The charming Michaelis, whom she believes is her savior, is not what he seems. In fact, he is part of a secret resistance movement—an aspect of his life that Anique is entirely unaware of, until it's too late.

As Anique navigates a maze of deceit, betrayal, and perilous encounters with men who seem to have their own agendas, she soon realizes that the man she loves may not be her greatest ally after all. With the dangerous mafia boss and his sadistic brother, Milos, closing in on her, Anique finds herself in a race against time to escape.

In the end, Michaelis helps her flee the island—but the price of freedom may be higher than either of them could have imagined.
